Jenna: Hello, animal lovers. We’re glad you’ve come back for this week’s animal news.
Hannah: I am happy to report that the cuteness will continue. Last week we discussed a polka dotted zebra, and this week we have young hippo touching noses with a hyena.
Jenna: This amazing interaction is said to have possibly involved curiosity and maybe a little bit of fear from both animals.
Hannah: Nonetheless, this made for a stunning observation by viewers.
Jenna: In other news, Australia now legally recognizes animals as sentient beings, feeling both pain and emotion. This bill approaches animal cruelty with zero tolerance.
Hannah: Within 6 months, the new laws will introduce animal welfare enforcement through stricter penalties. Failing to provide for pets, involving dogs in fighting, and committing animal abuse, to name a few actions, can result in fines, seizing of animals, and even imprisonment.
Jenna: And this is not limited to domesticated pets… livestock and wildlife are also included in these new laws.
Hannah: I think it’s great that a variety of animals are covered by these new welfare laws. Have you heard about the cinematographer from California who used a drone to find stranded animals in the Bahamas following Hurricane Dorian? He’s hoping to use an infrared drone to find animals more easily.
Jenna: That’s genius! He also hopes infrared drones will be used more frequently for rescuing animals. This should help increase the odds of survival for animals after natural disasters. This cinematographer’s story is so inspiring; he was able to use his skills for work to make such a wonderful difference in many animals’ lives.
Hannah: I hope we can both make a similar impact in our future careers! Until next time, animal lovers.
